POLICE used an Aboriginal tracker to recapture a man charged with murder who allegedly escaped from an Alice Springs courthouse last week.

Ross Jackatee, 20, was arrested in scrub near Standley Chasm, 42km west of Alice Springs, on Saturday.

Police alleged Mr Jackatee ran from the court building through the Alice Springs CBD on Thursday moments before he was to face court charged with stabbing dead a 22-year-old man in his home of Areyonga, west of Alice Springs, a week earlier.

The spokesman said a team of 10 police officers resumed the search near the chasm at 5.30am (ACST) on Saturday after a number of sightings.

`An Aboriginal tracker was conveyed to the scene by helicopter to assist police with the search,' he said.

Mr Jackatee was taken to hospital and treated for fatigue and dehydration.
