Sole Kind Of Feeling

GETTING a pedicure might seem the height of indulgence, but when you realise how much wear and tear your feet go through, it's not.

There is nothing more relaxing than soaking your feet in vibrating and bubbling water, then having your feet get the same treatment your face is given during a facial with peels and masks.

Of course feet are also given a bit of a scouring to get rid of the hard, dead skin that builds up due to ill-fitting shoes. Toenails are shaped and polished during the pedicure and the end result is like walking on air.

In America pedicures are big business, with beauticians using throne-like chairs that have in-built foot soaks. The idea is that the person getting the treatment settles into the large, comfortable throne while the pedicurist sits at their feet.

At the Essential Body Co, in Warners Bay, the beauty therapists use the SpaPedicure system, which contains products based on marine ingredients.

The first step is to soak the feet in a relaxing bath with sea rocks, which contain anti-inflammatory antiseptic ingredients.

After the soak, the exfoliating and massaging of your feet begins in earnest.

There is an aromatic foot scrub using quartz crystals, natural beach sand and marine alpha-hydroxy acid complex, and the foot masque also contains sea extracts to soothe and moisturise the skin.

The alpha-hydroxy acid complexes in the products also help to loosen dead skin.

The foot and leg massage oil has ylang ylang and sandalwood and is pure heaven.

Finish this off with some expert toenail shaping and polishing and the results are divine.

Treat your feet to a luxurious pedicure, writes Jenny Tarran, and you'll feel like you're walking on air.
